Sarah Goldman has been named a National Merit Semifinalist, putting her in the top 1 percent of Kansas high school students graduating in 2013.

Finalists will be named in February 2013. Sarah is a senior at Shawnee Mission East High School and the daughter of Don Goldman and Martha Gershun. The family belongs to Congregation Beth Torah.

Jacob Stein recently earned his Eagle Scout Rank. Jacob is the son of Patty and Dr. Richard Stein and is a member of Troop 61 sponsored by Congregation Beth Shalom.

Jacob’s Eagle Project involved collecting art supplies and creating COPE kits for sick children at Children’s Mercy Hospital.

The Eagle Scout Award is the highest rank in Scouting, with only 3 percent of Scouts achieving this rank.

Sandy Curtis and Bruce and Frances Singer announce the engagement of their son, Adam Singer, to Jessica Crouse, daughter of Diane Boone, Overland Park, and Ken and Andrea Crouse, Alamosa, Colo.

The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of Robert and Agatha Boone, the late Kenneth Crouse Jr. and the late Mary Jule Crouse. She attended the University of Kansas, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in business management, with a concentration in entrepreneurship. She was president of the KU Equestrian team and a member of Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity. She is currently employed as an account manager for Zillner in Lenexa.

The future groom is the grandson of Charlene and the late Allen Hecht and the late Morris and Sadie Singer. He attended the University of Kansas, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics. He is currently employed as product manager for Balance Innovations in Lenexa.

A small October 2013 wedding is planned at an outdoor venue in southern Overland Park.

Marge and Howard Novorr will be celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary on Sunday, Oct. 14. They were married at The President Hotel by Rabbi Samuel Mayerberg in 1942.

Their family comprises three children, eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
