Dr. Jane Sosland, Priya board president, is a strong advocate and dedicated volunteer for the Jewish Family Services’ program. Priya, a program of JFS, offers Jewish individuals and couples, including LGBTQ+ and interfaith families, emotional support, resource connection, spiritual guidance and financial assistance with genetic testing, fertility treatments and adoption.

Magen David Adom is Israel’s national EMS, blood-services, and disaster-relief organization, and Israel’s representative to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Magen David Adom has prioritized the task of placing defibrillators in public spaces throughout Israel. Already, thousands have been installed around the country. Defibrillators can be operated without medical training and are intended to save lives in the event of a heart attack until emergency crews arrive.

JVS TAKING DONATIONS FOR REFUGEES

Jewish Vocational Service is now accepting donations of furniture, clothing and household items to support newly-arriving refugees. All items will be going directly into the homes of refugee families and need to be clean, functional and in good condition.

Addressing Jew-hatred calls for bold change and big ideas driven by the rising generation of Jews. To empower change and foster innovation, American Jewish Committee (AJC) recently launched its “Disrupt Antisemitism” initiative, the first incubator for young American Jews who are passionate about fighting antisemitism.

Jewish Family Services and the Rabbinical Association of Greater Kansas City’s annual High Holiday Food Drive is scheduled September 1-30. This traditional holiday food drive, held in celebration of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, helps JFS feed approximately 800 families each month with dignity and care. 

 Erev Rosh Hashanah begins on the evening of Monday, September 6. Holiday meals to go will once again be offered to the community. A full Rosh Hashanah meal will be prepared by Kim Matsil, Kim’s Kreations. Curbside meal pickup will take place at the Jewish Community Campus on Sunday afternoon, September 5. The deadline to place meal orders is Sunday, August 29.
