Rosemary and Steven Nochlin of Leawood announce the engagement of their son, Brian Nochlin, to Melissa Triveline, daughter of Chris and David Triveline and Tina and Tom Cameron.

The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of Roy and Sharlene Triveline and Norma and the late Lou Guida. She attended Ball State University where she graduated magna cum laude in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in political science and DePaul University where she earned a master’s degree in public administration in 2010. She is currently employed as a Colorado development director for the non-profit organization “Share Our Strength.”

The future groom is the grandson of the late Bess and Sam Fiszel of Chesterfield, Mo., and Fred and the late Joyce Westfield of Nashville. He graduated from Blue Valley North High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2005. He is currently employed as a quality assurance manager for Accenture.

An April 2013 wedding is planned.

Mike and Barbara Pittel announce the engagement of their son, Andrew Pittel, to Catherine Schuetz, daughter of Diane Schuetz and the late Stephen Schuetz of Wichita.

The bride-to-be graduated from Kapaun Mount Carmel High School in Wichita and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology from the University of Kansas.

The future groom graduated from Blue Valley Northwest High School and is currently a student at the University of Kansas.

A Sept. 22 wedding in Wichita is planned.

Yara and Aaron Nielsenshultz announce the Bar Mitzvah of their son, Liam, at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 28. Liam is the grandson of Dann and the late Mary Nielsen of San Diego, Guy and Tracey Shultz of Mannassas, Va., and Ed and Phyllis Payne of Lawrence, Kan. Relatives and friends are invited to worship with the family and to attend the Kiddush luncheon following the service.

Jennifer Boresow Burns and Jeff Burns announce the birth June 30 of a son, Mark Howard Boresow Burns. They are also the parents of five girls and four other boys: Sydney, 12; Anna, 11; Taylor, 10; Ryan, 9; Daniel, 7; Matthew, 6; Thomas, 5; Andrew, 3; and Sam, 1 ½. Paternal grandparents are Ann and Dennis Burns of Leawood (their 17th grandchild). Maternal grandparents are Don and Harriet Boresow of Overland Park (their 50th grandchild). Great-grandmother is Betty Murray of Olathe.

Yaakov and Avital Rosenberg announce the birth July 3 of a daughter, Atara Malka Rosenberg. Grandparents are Rabbi Dr. Bernhard Rosenberg and Charlene Rosenberg and Alan and Jackie Kelin. All reside in Edison, N.J. The baby is named after the mother’s paternal grandmother and the father’s cousin, the late Maria Devinki.

The Sixth Annual National Indie Excellence Awards recognized “Make New Friends … Live Longer” by Sunie Levin in the category of Aging as a winner/finalist.

This national award, based in Los Angeles, is open to all English language books including small presses, university presses, independent publishers and self-published authors. Works published in 2009, 2010 and 2011 were eligible for consideration.

The competition is judged by independent experts from all aspects of the indie book industry, including publishers, writers, editors, book cover designers and professional copywriters. They select award winners and finalists based on overall excellence of presentation.

“Make New Friends … Live Longer” is a non-fiction genre book — a how-to for boomers and seniors to become proactive in making new friends.

“We appreciate you, we applaud you and thank you for your great work. You are contributing to make independent publishing a great sector in the literary community,” said Ellen Ried, president of the National Indie Excellence Book Awards.

The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of Mrs. Elmer Price and the late Mr. Price and the late Mr. and Mrs. Jack Z. Krigel. She attended the University of Southern California, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology. She is a member of Alpha Phi sorority.

The future groom attended the University of Southern California, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration, and the University of Virginia, earning a master’s degree in accounting. He is a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity and is the president of Somerpointe Resorts in Las Vegas.

An Oct. 6 wedding at Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas is planned.
