Sherry is one of 18 members on the task force drawn from politics, business, law, education, government and nonprofit organizations. {mprestriction ids="1,3"}Mayor James said the group will work for the next year formulating practical solutions to help decrease Kansas City’s high violence rate.
In September 2013 Sherry was one of the co-founders of GAGV, which started after the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting. Since then GAGV has been at the forefront of two community forums on gun violence.
In September of 2014 the Missouri State AARP unanimously recognized Sherry for her efforts to curb gun violence with its Andrus Award for Community Service, AARP’s most prestigious acknowledgement of volunteerism in every state.
