My sister unexpectedly passed away in Maryland this past December.  A horrible situation was made even more difficult because, as her executor, I was dealing long distance with issues surrounding her estate and her sons.  When I returned from my first trip to Maryland, Esther Friedman, the director of KC Kosher Meals on Wheels, was at my door with a week’s worth of meals.  As a kitchen volunteer for the program, I knew that the meals were made from scratch with fresh ingredients. I knew that the program volunteers, both in the kitchen and on the delivery routes, were the most caring, devoted individuals you will ever meet. What I didn’t know is that the meals are absolutely delicious.  When I returned from that first trip, I was barely eating and wasn’t cooking at all.  The meals were a godsend.  I encourage anyone in need for any reason — illness, death in the family, lack of mobility, economic hardship, whatever — to contact KC Kosher Meals on Wheels.  All members of the community will be helped regardless of level of religious observance or synagogue affiliation.  I encourage anyone with the financial means to consider supporting the program.  The website for KC Kosher Meals on Wheels is www.torahkc.org/koshermeals  and their phone number is 913-385-5770.
