During the last 70 years, Israel faced wars, conflicts and great challenges; through it all, the Israeli spirit of resilience has remained constant. It allowed us not only to survive, but also to thrive and to make the impossible come true.
Israel is a nation of soldiers. At the age of 18, Israelis enlist in the IDF (Israel Defense Force) to protect our homeland. I joined the IDF in 2008 and served in a special artillery unit as an officer. Just like many other Israelis, I was so eager and proud to serve my country. The patriotic feeling is something that I can’t explain in words. The soldiers are the nation’s children and I’m thankful for the strong army that we have.
Israel is also a nation of builders. It invests in its young generation like few other countries. From kindergarten, Israeli children are trained in advanced problem-solving techniques. The country’s universities and research centers have contributed to the advancement of knowledge around the world, and Israel’s economy has become the envy of many, with its cutting-edge innovations in science and technology. Even Hollywood enjoys some Israeli movie stars.
I feel proud of Israel in so many ways as I look back on the tremendous changes that have happened during the last 70 years. We have developed from a very poor, young country into the “start-up nation,” and we now lead the world in various fields, from high tech to science to education, to name just a few.
This year I wish Israel a healthy and peaceful year: A year in which we continue to respect people with different points of view, a year where we fulfill our Jewish values, a year where all of our soldiers will come home safe, and a year where the connection with the Diaspora grows stronger than ever.
This year I invite you to join us for a special celebration of Israel’s 70th birthday!
