Barbara (House) Goodbinder passed away very peacefully at Select Specialty Acute Care Hospital on Aug. 16 at the age of 81.

She was the daughter of Isidor and Rose (Yeddis) House and older sister to Harold House.

Barbara was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, and graduated from Southwest High School. She was active in SYO.

After high school, she worked at United Missouri Bank before meeting the love of her life, Phillip Goodbinder, at one of the Jewish Community Center's young adults programs, where they both were very active participants. They were married during Labor Day weekend on Sept. 3, 1967, and had two children, Aaron and Deborah.

Barbara was a lifelong member of Kehilath Israel Synagogue where she grew up, was confirmed and graduated from its Hebrew school. She was even one of its librarians when the synagogue was on 63rd and Rockhill Road. She was married there and was a member until her passing. She was also a life member of Hadassah and very active in ORT.

After taking some time off to raise her kids, Barbara went back to work and worked as a market researcher before spending the majority of her career taking on administrative roles at several companies. Her favorite jobs were working as the cantor’s secretary at Congregation Beth Shalom and at the State of Israel Bonds.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 56 years, Phillip, who passed away in December 2023, parents, Isidor and Rose House, and brother, Harold House.

Barbara was a very devoted wife and mother, and family meant everything to her. She is survived by her son, Aaron Goodbinder, daughter, Deborah Goodbinder (Joel Abecassis), plus several nieces and nephews, many great nieces and nephews, loving cousins, and numerous wonderful and caring friends.

Shiva took place in the chapel at Kehilath Israel Synagogue during evening prayer services from Aug. 19 through Aug. 22.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Hadassah of Greater Kansas City Chapter; Kehilath Israel Synagogue; Congregation Beth Shalom; or a charity of your choice.

May Barbara’s memory be a blessing to all who knew her.
