Stanley Marvin Weiner, 87, of Overland Park, Kansas, died on June 9, surrounded by loved ones.

Stan was born on June 11, 1936, to Lillian and William Weiner in Kansas City, Missouri. Stan graduated from Paseo High School in 1954 where he was active in a fraternity and played the violin in the school orchestra and in Congregation Beth Shalom’s Zimrah Orchestra. He was proud of being invited to participate in the Missouri Boys State and received a full scholarship to Kansas City University, where he earned a business degree.

In 1970, Stan married the love of his life, Mary. He often expressed the importance of having a partner in life, and Mary was wholeheartedly his partner in every way. He was proud to be a father to Keith (Dena), Marcy (Gary) and Matthew (z”l), and enjoyed many special summers with them at brother Sam’s cabin at the Lake of the Ozarks as well as camping and ski trips to Colorado. He loved being a grandpa and great-grandpa to Adam, Alyssa, Kaity (Kevin), Kyle, Brett (z”l), Justin, Eila, Sylvi and Zoe.

Stan loved to work and claimed he would never retire. He got his first job at Parkview Drugs at the age of nine. In 1964, he purchased Cardinal Office Supply, where he continued to “sell pencils” for 28 years before selling and working another eight years for BT Office Supply. In his retirement, he and Mary were travel agents, escorting groups to many corners of the world. He then became a courier for Wallace Saunders and a school van driver for Blue Valley Schools. When he was finally convinced to actually retire, he enjoyed volunteering at the Jewish Family Services’ food pantry and with the Kiddush Corps and Lechem Committee at Congregation Beth Shalom, where he was a lifelong member.

Stan loved to talk. Because of this, he was often recruited to be the master of ceremonies at various events. He was creative and funny and was able to keep audiences laughing well beyond the allotted time. He was also able to keep the family entertained on long road trips by telling wonderful, imaginative stories to his children.

Stan was preceded in death by his parents, Lillian and William; son Matthew; grandson Brett; and brothers, Sam (Lois), Norman (Jody) and Harvey. He leaves behind his wife, Mary; children Keith Weiner (Dena) and Marcy Rydell (Gary); sister, Terri Katzman (Stan); as well as grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held on June 11 at the Yukon Chapel in Mt. Carmel Cemetery with burial following. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Marcia Eveloff Lechem Fund at Congregation Beth Shalom, Jewish Family Services’ food pantry or the charity of your choice.
