Laura Sechrist, 69, of Overland Park, Kansas, died on April 26.

Funeral services were held on May 1 at Louis Memorial Chapel, followed by burial at Mt. Carmel Cemetery and Shiva.

She was born May 6, 1954, to the late Martin and Sylvia Stone in Kansas City, Missouri. Laura graduated from Shawnee Mission East High School in 1972 and the University of Southern California in 1976. 

Laura married Eric Sechrist in 1977, and the couple raised their three children in Overland Park. Laura, a longtime federal employee and avid Kansas basketball fan, also had a lifelong passion for sewing, creating stuffed creatures for her grandchildren and blankets for children across the Kansas City area and other cancer patients. 

Laura was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Eric Sechrist (Overland Park); son, son-in-law and grandson, Adam, Curtis and Noah Sechrist (New York City); daughter and grandson, Anna Sechrist and RJ Wetherill (Overland Park); daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren Abigail, Joshua, Tristan and Ellie King (Lawrence, Kansas); and brother, Doug Stone (Mission Hills, Kansas).
