Marilyn Wilma (Adler) Lewandowski (Miryam Lewandowski), 77, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away peacefully on April 11 at Saint Luke’s Hospice House, surrounded by her loving family.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 19, at Kehilath Israel Blue Ridge Cemetery (1901 Blue Ridge Blvd, Independence, MO 64052).
Born July 14, 1946, in Kansas City, Missouri, to the late Ruth Adler and the late Hans Adler, Marilyn was 100% German by heritage. Along with her late sister, Evelyn, they were the first in their family born in the United States. Marilyn was fortunate enough to travel internationally a lot with her parents when she was younger. She also worked abroad in Germany, where she met her best friend of 55 years, Gail, who resides today in Northeastern Iowa.
Marilyn was an entrepreneur at heart. Besides being a real estate agent for large periods over a 40-year span, she also ran a wholesale business and candle business at different times. The career she was most passionate about was as a distributor for an alkaline water company. She truly loved to help others and was genuinely happy when she could help improve someone’s health.
She met her future husband, Wolfgang Lewandowski, when he picked her up as a passenger from the airport. They started a beautiful family and were together for 41 years until he passed away in May of 2018.
Marilyn was also an active member of Congregation Beth Torah and went to services as much as she could. A particularly proud moment for her came within the last decade when she achieved a personal milestone: becoming a bat mitzvah.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law John Lewandowski and Victoria Strafuss and her cherished granddaughter; son Charlie Haystack (born Jeff Lewandowski); as well as seven nieces and a nephew.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marilyn’s name to Jewish Family Services. Online condolences for the family may be left at louismemorialchapel.com.
