Daniel Allen Kass, 73, of Mission, Kansas, passed away on Feb. 25 at KU Medical Center.
Dan was born in Kansas City, Missouri, to Saul and Mildred Kass on Nov. 15, 1950. Graduating from Shawnee Mission East High School in 1968, he went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in physical education and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Kansas. He was involved in a number of entrepreneurial ventures throughout his career, most recently in developing avenues to access affordable healthcare.
He was an avid sports fan, especially of KU basketball, KU football and the Kansas City Chiefs. Despite a busy life with family and work, he was most happy coaching youth athletics and leading youth religious programs. He was a lifelong active member of Kehilath Israel Synagogue, where he furthered his parents’ legacy of building a strong Jewish community.
Dan is survived by his longtime partner, Lori Klarfeld; his sons Lyle, Simon and Alfred, and their spouses, Kerry, Amelia and Emily; and his grandchildren, Mildred, Pierce, Solomon, Charles, Farrah, Benjamin, Alden and Frances.
Funeral services were held at Louis Memorial Chapel on Feb. 28 with Rabbi Grussgott of Kehilath Israel officiating. Burial followed at Kehilath Israel Blue Ridge Cemetery.
Shiva was held on Wednesday evening and will be held on Thursday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Kehilath Israel Synagogue.
