The Fidler/Siegel family mourns the passing of Mervyn Fidler (Mendel ben Pinchas) (pictured left), who passed away on Nov. 22.
He was born on Feb. 12, 1934.
A native New Yorker from the Bronx, he lived the last years of his life at Shalom Park in Denver, Colorado. He is survived by his daughter Bonnie Siegel and son-in-law Matthew Siegel of Kansas City; his daughter Cheryl Ben David and son-in-law Avi Ben David of Avon, Connecticut; son Dr. Philip Fidler and daughter-in-law Jody Fidler of Denver.
He is also survived by grandchildren Paulina and Benjamin Siegel; Nathaniel Ben David; and Max, Jack and Anastasia Fidler.
"The Merv," as he was affectionately known, was a Private First Class during the Korean War. He hit a home run out of the old Polo Grounds in the Police Athletic Championship in high school, and he was a professional trumpet player and champion horseshoe thrower later in life.
He was a larger-than-life character who didn't mince words. If you fell short in competition, he'd say, “Remember, there's always someone better than you.” He was a man who cared deeply for his family and who lived each day of his life doting on his wife, Barbara. Barbara preceded him in death, three years to the day.
The family is at peace knowing he will be reunited with his beloved wife, Barbara.
The funeral was held on Nov. 26 in New Jersey.
His daughter Bonnie Siegel will be sitting shiva daily in her home (11505 High Dr., Leawood, KS 66211) until Dec. 3. She welcomes anyone wanting to visit to feel free to come to her home between 2 and 5:30 p.m. Services will be held each evening, Monday through Thursday at 7 p.m. and Friday morning at 7:30 a.m.
