Robert Sherrill Friedman, 87, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away on Sept. 19.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 22, at Kehilath Israel Blue Ridge Cemetery, 1901 Blue Ridge Boulevard, Independence, MO 64052. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.
Bob was born on Nov. 26, 1936, to Harry and Rita (Simons) Friedman. He spent much of his childhood in Los Angeles, California, attending Fairfax and Dorsey high schools, before moving to New Mexico, where he attended the University of New Mexico. From there, he and his family moved to Kansas City, where he attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City, studying to become a pharmacist. When those plans changed, he went on to spend the next 30 years working as a pharmaceutical representative covering northwest Missouri. In the early 1960s, he spent several years working for the Army as a medical lab specialist.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Fran Malcy; and his wife, Gayla Friedman.
Bob is survived by his only child, daughter Stacy Brown (Rob); grandchildren Jack and Chloe; and his nephew, nieces and many loving cousins.
In his later years, Bob worked at a local pharmacy and volunteered at Union Station Science City and Wayside Waifs animal shelter. In fact, he and Gayla rescued many dogs over the years. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and contagious laughter.
