Edgar Kaplan, a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, was lost on May 27, 2023.
Edgar Kaplan was born in Rochester, New York, on June 23, 1928. In his nearly 95 years, Ed was proud to join the Navy and be stationed on the USS Midway. He graduated from Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio, and received his degree in English literature. He had a special fondness for Rudyard Kipling and would recite several of his poems from memory.
After college, he married his treasured wife, Marie, and they were together for 68 years. They raised three daughters, Susan Schlesinger (Paul), Elizabeth Kaplan (Rex Donahey), and Ann Kruska (John). Ed was also very proud of his two grandchildren, Charles Schlesinger (Barbara) and Carolyn Paluch (Bob). He also loved to hold his seven great-grandchildren.
In his free time he played a lot of golf and enjoyed working at Michael’s Clothing just to have a constant audience for his jokes. He had a great sense of humor. In his later years, conversation was difficult for him, but he could still belt out many a tune due to his lifelong love of musicals and albums. He passed peacefully at the Illinois Veterans’ Home in Manteno, Illinois. He was a good man who is deeply missed.
