Leah Marie Schwartz Cohn, loving wife and mother dedicated to her family and friends, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2023, in Tucson, Arizona.
Born in 1924 in Kansas City, Missouri, to Benjamin and Anna Cohn, Leah was the youngest of her siblings Sara, Bill and Leonard.
Leah graduated from Central High School in 1942, then attended Junior College, which prepared her for work in a medical dispensary (infirmary) during World War II. Throughout her lifetime Leah enjoyed volunteering at local hospitals around town. Always artsy, Leah engaged in creative work throughout her lifetime, was an avid crafter, seamstress, quilter, knitter, and miniature dollhouse builder, just to name a few of her many artistic endeavors.
Married to Sherman Schwartz in 1947, Leah is survived by their three children, Paul Schwartz (Amy), Rhonda Schwartz Swade (Mark), and Janis Schwartz; seven grandchildren: Joshua Swade (Lauren), Shanna Swade Brewer (Bryan), Jonathan Swade (Kelly), Micah Swade (Chelsea), Samantha Swade, Erica Schwartz, Bradley Schwartz; and eight great-grandchildren: Stella Swade, Lucy Swade, Levi Swade, Ozzi Swade, Eleanor Swade, Milo, Lealand and Devon Brewer.
Leah enjoyed an active social life in Kansas City, always busy with her many friends and family, hosting holiday meals, family weddings, and celebratory events. Much loved and devoted lifelong friends were her Schwartz sister-in-laws, Ruth Schwartz Dubowy and Pearline Schwartz Kaufman.
Sherman passed away in 1976; Leah remarried to Kenneth Cohn, also of Kansas City. Leah was also a lifelong member of Kehilath Israel Synagogue.
