David Berey, 82, of Westhampton, New York, passed away on April 7, 2023, surrounded by his family.
David was born in the Bronx in New York City to Edythe and Gordon Berey on Oct. 16, 1940. He moved to Kansas City in 1955 and was a starter on the Center High basketball team. David earned a scholarship to Northwestern University and completed his studies at the University of Kansas, earning a master’s degree in education.
While David was an Earth science teacher at Roslyn High School in New York, he co-authored a textbook on Earth science used by many U.S. high schools. He also wrote prep manuals for New York State Regents Examinations. He later became a project systems manager on Wall Street.
In retirement, David enjoyed playing tennis, solitaire (as a follow up to his earlier love for duplicate bridge), and teaching seniors about computers and investing.
A beloved husband, parent, grandparent, and brother, he is survived by his spouse, Judy; son, Warren (Susan); daughter, Lisa; grandchildren, Evan and Leah; brother, Lewis (Carol); and nieces, Allison Berey (John Lorei) and Dana Schwartz (Neal).
A graveside service was held at Wellwood Cemetery in West Babylon, New York.
