Andre B. Schwartz, 86, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2023.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2023, at the chapel at Kehilath Israel Blue Ridge Cemetery.
Andre was born on Feb. 5, 1937, in Kisvarda, Hungary, to Moe and Helen Schwartz. His father had the foresight to pack up his family and leave Europe prior to the outbreak of World War II. After relocating to the United States, the Schwartz family settled in Brooklyn, New York, where Andre grew up.
In 1955, Andre enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served his country, making several stops along the way including Greenland. After being honorably discharged, he also worked in civilian duty for the U.S. Army, Navy and Defense Department and retired after over 40 years of government service. He was known to his friends as Andy.
In the early 1960s, Andre met the love of his life, Norma Lesner. They were together for over 60 years and married for over 57 years.
Andre was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend to all that knew him.
Andre was preceded in death by his parents, Moe and Helen Schwartz; his sister Ann Berger; and his sister Ruth Seas.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Schwartz; his son and daughter-in-law Adam and Joy Schwartz; his daughter, Robyn Fofana; his four grandchildren, Harry Schwartz, Samuel Schwartz, Hope Schwartz and Ravyn Belmoh; his sister Edith Gross; his brother and sister-in-law Rudy and Ruth Schwartz; his brother and sister-in-law Sam and Vera Schwartz; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in his honor to Kehilath Israel Synagogue in Overland Park, Kansas.
Andre, a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, will be greatly missed, but the family’s fond memories of him will live in their hearts forever.
