Anne H. Shalinsky, 98, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away surrounded by her family on the morning of Feb. 6, 2023, 15 Shevat, 5783 (Tu B’Shevat).

Anne was a proud daughter of Kansas City. She was a graduate of Paseo High School and worked at Harzfeld’s in downtown Kansas City during her early adulthood. She was a lifelong resident of the Kansas City Metro, and a fan of area sports teams. She and her husband Milton went to KC Blues' and Monarchs baseball games on dates before their marriage in 1947. After raising her family, Anne returned to work beside Milton at the family pharmacy business in downtown Overland Park. Her customer service was superb, and her record keeping meticulous.

Anne was a proud American. She was a Super Voter and Harry Truman Democrat who voted in every election from 1948 to 2022. She was proud of Milton’s military service and encouraged him to tell his stories. She accompanied him to many Air Force reunions, including one at the airbase in England from which he flew missions during World War II. She loved to travel, and visited most U.S. States and several foreign nations. Anne had a sense of adventure. She drove herself around Kansas City, and took regular trips to New York well into her 90s.

Anne was physically strong and mentally sharp. She survived a number of serious illnesses through sheer determination and will. She was an avid reader, kept up with current events and balanced her checkbook to the penny. She was a woman with strong opinions who had the discernment to know when to express them and when to keep them to herself. Those who were able to experience her unfiltered, received a true gift.

Anne was proud of her family. Like her husband Milton, she was unconditionally supportive of her children in their choices and their dreams. As a devoted daughter, she called or visited her mother every day. She was a fierce advocate for those she loved. She adored, and was adored by her extended family.

Anne was a proud Jew.  She was raised in an observant home, and her level of observance grew as she aged. Tzedakah, as a volunteer and generous donor, was an important part of her life. She served as a district vice-chair of B’nai Brith Women and was a prolific fundraiser for Congregation Ohev Sholom as an officer in its Sisterhood in the years after it moved to Johnson County from Kansas City, Kansas. More recently, she supported Chabad in Overland Park and the Torah Learning Center. She participated actively in prayer, recitation of psalms and Torah learning every day for many years.

Anne was predeceased by her parents, Jake and Naomi Shabason; her husband, Milton Shalinsky; her sisters, Sarah Becker, Goldie Koden, Mary Shabason, Evelyn Yodler; and her grandson, Jacob Shalinsky.

She is survived by her children, Audrey Shalinsky, Barry Shalinsky (Robin Rosenberg), and Devorah Leah Shalinsky; grandsons, Elijah and Shane Shalinsky; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Torah Learning Center Kosher Meals on Wheels (torahkc.org/koshermeals) or a charity of your choice, or plant a tree and remember Anne on Tu B’Shevat.
