He was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on Nov. 1, 1931. He graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in mechanical engineering. He worked for Black & Veatch Engineering Company in Kansas City until relocation to San Francisco, California, in 1962. He worked for 30 years for Bechtel Corp. until retiring in 1992.
His career as a mechanical engineer encompassed many different facets, but his chief job was that of project manager of multiple large projects, such as the Montana Power Company.
After retirement, Alvin enjoyed pursuing many interests, such as photography, musical theater, traveling, and dissecting the news and stock market.
Alvin was a wonderful, caring husband and father as well as a friend to many people. He enjoyed an 80+ years deep friendship with some of his boyhood friends in Kansas City with whom he kept in contact until just a few days before he passed.
For all who knew Alvin well, it’s incredible to say that he was a man of great integrity and honor. He also had a very good sense of humor. He will be greatly missed.
