Sandra Gasser passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, Jan. 13, 2023, at the age of 85 in her home.

She was married to her husband William (Bill) for 66 years.

Sandra was born in Kansas City to Sarah and Jack Ruben. She graduated from Southwest High School, attended UMKC and received a degree in pharmacy. She worked for Rexall Drugs in Shawnee, Kansas, which she and Bill purchased in 1975. They were among the first married pharmacists to work together, under the store name of Gasser Drugs.

In 1978, Sandra went on to operate the pharmacy in John Knox Village in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Never one to pass on an opportunity, she enjoyed the constant challenge and getting to know all of the residents. A few years later, she and Bill opened a second store, Dollar Drugs, in Lee’s Summit, and once again worked together for the next twenty years at that location until they retired together.

Sandra enjoyed spending all her spare time with her husband, children and grandchildren, racing sailboats, camping, spending time on their land, and attending local theater performances. She loved being surrounded by her family, especially at holiday time. Passover was her favorite.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents Sarah and Jack and her brother, Bernard Ruben. She is survived by her husband, Bill; sister Phyllis Kogan (Ronald) of Overland Park, Kansas; three children, Chuck Gasser (Andrea), Ben Gasser (Irene), and Ann Myer; and eight loving grandchildren.

Services were held on Jan. 15 at Kehilath Israel Blue Ridge Cemetery, 1901 Blue Ridge Blvd, Independence, MO, 64128.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to any animal rescue organization or to the Jack and Sarah Ruben fund at Kehilath Israel Synagogue. Online condolences for the family may be left at louismemorialchapel.com.
