After a courageous battle against cancer, Debra Sue Adamous passed away surrounded by love on Dec. 17, 2022.
Debbie was born on July 5, 1953, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Holocaust survivor Bernard Tannebaum and his wife Rita. She was passionate about her family and the family she was able to find within her Jewish community by continuously opening her home and heart to all.
After graduating from Center High School, she attended UMKC, where Debbie received a Bachelor of Arts in history. She worked for AMC Theaters for 28 years. In 1979, Debbie met Koroush Joseph at a Mr. & Mrs. Club event hosted by K.I. synagogue, after which they celebrated two children and 43 years of marriage.
Debbie was a lifetime member of the Hadassah organization. As a committed leader to the Women of K.I., Debbie was constantly opening her home to anyone looking for a plate with a few extra pieces of challah. When she wasn’t busy deciding on a menu for Kiddush or planning decorations for the next synagogue event, she was getting lost in the “captivating” storylines in her Hallmark movies. Debbie was always sure to set aside time on Sunday to cheer on her beloved Kansas City Chiefs.
Debbie was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Rita Tannebaum, and her beloved Shih Tzu, Wookie. She leaves behind her husband, Kourosh Joseph; her children Joshua (Jennifer) and Rochelle; and five grandchildren: Desi, Eli, Mimi, Bella, and Geneva. She will be missed by a large number of extended family and friends — which she considered her family by choice.
Debbie will be deeply missed but forever loved and remembered for her endearing and glowing smile, her happy and energetic demeanor, as well as her boundless and selfless generosity to family and friends alike. She epitomized and truly embodied the meaning of an Eshet Chayil, a "Woman of Valor."
A funeral service was held at Louis Memorial Chapel on Dec. 19, 2022, followed by interment at Kehilath Israel Blue Ridge Cemetery.
