Harold “Hal” S. Novicoff, 83, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away on Nov. 7, 2022, at Menorah Medical Center, surrounded by his family.
Hal was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Molly and Abe Novicoff on Dec. 28, 1938. He went to Lincoln High School and then on to graduate from the University of Nebraska.
After graduating college, he went to work with his father at their car dealership until he moved to Kansas City. After moving to Kansas City, he started his own company, which continued until he met his new business partner in the early 1990s. This new business is where he happily continued his career until his death.
Hal met the love of his life at a New Year’s Eve party in 1961, where he chased his future bride around the room until he caught her. They married in 1962 and enjoyed 60 incredible years of marriage. Hal was blessed with three wonderful children and seven grandchildren. His true passion was bragging about his kids and grandchildren. He adored them and was so proud of them.
Hal loved his football, sports gambling, and telling everyone on Sunday morning before the Chief’s game “going down going down.” He loved his Chiefs and his Huskers.
Hal is survived by his wife, Kitty; brother-in-law Ken Kars (Jesslynn); son Michael (Jodi); son Todd (Emily); daughter Mindi Squire (Jamie); and his seven grandchildren Jake, Zachary, Ariana, Mandy, Mallory, Sammi Jo and Drew.
Funeral service was held at Louis Memorial Chapel on Nov. 10 with Rabbi Grussgott of Kehilath Israel Synagogue. Shiva was held Thursday evening at his daughter Mindi Squire’s house.
Memorial donations may be made to Village Shalom or a charity of your choice.
The family wants to thank Village Shalom and Menorah Medical Center ICU unit for their compassionate, excellent care.
Hal had a larger than life, one-of-a-kind personality. He created nicknames for everyone he met. His generous spirit touched people and created a legacy that will never be forgotten.
