Irene Moskowitz (Solomon), Dec. 21, 1930 – Aug. 13, 2022, was born and raised in New York City.
The youngest of Louis and Rebecca’s two children, Irene and her sister, Selma, were raised in the fold of her loving aunts, uncles, and cousins on the lower East Side. Irene met and married Arnold Moskowitz in 1954, and together they moved to Kansas in 1958, where Arnold pursued his studies and became a psychologist. Irene deferred her own career aspirations to raise their three children, but later pursued some of her own dreams. In the 1970s, she partnered in a giftware business where her product was featured in a prominent department store. She also acquired and operated a successful travel agency. Irene will be remembered by all who were fortunate to be close to her as wicked smart, creative, funny, courageous and kind.
Irene is survived by her children Amy Gertler (John Fell), Doug Moskowitz (Melody), and Lisa Thursby (Michael); her beloved grandchildren, Zachary, Jessica, Harley, Max, Alaina and Celia; and her dear sister, Selma and family. In lieu of flowers, her family will deeply appreciate donations in her memory to support Parkinson’s research to Parkinson's Foundation Heartland, O 1359 Broadway, Ste. 1509 New York, New York 10018.
