Marlene Katz Capito passed away on Aug. 8, 2022, at the age of 89.
She was born on May 19, 1933, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Russian immigrants Morris and Esther Katz. She had two brothers, Seymour and Richard, and two sisters, Bessie Katz Miller and Shirley Katz. They all preceded her in death.
Marlene grew up in Kansas City and attended Paseo High School. She then worked for the Jewish Community Center for 62 years until her retirement in 2013.
She met Alvin Capito in 1960 and their first date was the Big 8 Holiday Basketball Tournament in Municipal Auditorium. They married in 1962 and had one son, Michael Capito. She loved to cook for him, and they both loved to travel with family and friends. They had a loving marriage for 27 years until Alvin’s death in 1990.
Marlene loved to bake and passed on her recipes to her nieces and daughter-in-law who continue to use them today.
Marlene leaves behind her son, Michael Capito; daughter-in-law, Gay; grandchildren Alex, Aaron and Caroline; and her many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
Services were held on Aug. 10 at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, 5529 Ditzler Avenue, Raytown, MO. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alvin Capito Fund at the Jewish Community Center of Kansas City or the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation.
