Phyllis Rochelle Rose was born to Harry and Gertrude Schaffer on Nov. 13, 1932, in Chicago, Illinois.

Phyllis attended the University of Missouri in Columbia in 1950. In the summer of 1952, she met her husband of 69 years, Allen Rose, at Montrose Beach on Lake Michigan. They soon married on March 1, 1953 – six days before Allen was deployed to serve the U.S. Army in the Korean War.

Once reunited, their family of four began with two children, Karen and Donald in Creve Coeur, Missouri. They later moved to Overland Park, Kansas, and welcomed baby Mark — a family of five. Surprise!

For years, Phyllis and Allen ran their business together. Tracking her stocks and watching the market was a big passion for Phyllis. But most important to Phyllis were her relationships with family and friends. Her simple pleasure in life was spending time with her husband, kids, grandkids, great-grandchildren and friends. She made it a point to involve herself in the lives of anyone her family cared about. Everyone who knew Phyllis felt her acceptance.

Phyllis cherished friends, family, and food, and welcomed everyone to her home and swimming pool, which became a central meeting spot for endless conversations and smiles. She was authentic and comforting, without judgment — come as you are. We know that Phyllis will be missed by all her family and friends, including those at Town Village of Leawood, her retirement community.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Rose; her brother David Schaffer and her grandson Aaron Miller. She is survived by her children: Karen (Dennis) Miller, Donald (Debbie) Rose, and Mark (Julye) Rose; her grandchildren: Danielle (Jeremy) Antes, Steven (Alex) Miller, Deanna Rose, Daniel Rose, and Nathan Rose; and her great-grandchildren: Eli Antes, Jonah Antes, Gabriella Antes, and Caleb Antes.

The family looks forward to a “celebration of life” in Phyllis’ and Allen’s honor in Chicago in 2023. May their memory be a blessing for all of us. The family suggests donations to The Heritage Center at the Jewish Community Center or another charity of your choice.

Together again are Allen and Phyllis. May we all find love their way.
