Stuart Radetsky, 87, of Overland Park, Kansas, died May 27, 2022.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, May 31, at Kehilath Israel Blue Ridge Cemetery, 1901 Blue Ridge Boulevard Independence, MO.
Stuart, known to his family as Sonny, was born in Denver, Colorado, on April 30, 1935, to Ann and Abe S. Radetsky. He grew up in Kansas City and graduated from Southwest High School. In school, he was a talented athlete and played football and basketball and ran track. He was also a gifted violinist.
In 1970, he married Harriet Lazerwitz of St. Louis, Missouri. They were happily married for 50 years, and one of the highlights of their marriage was living and working for nearly a year on Hulda Kibbutz in Israel. Sonny served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. He maintained an avid interest in the state of Israel throughout his life. He was well known for his handyman skills and enjoyed gardening with his wife.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and two sisters, Shana Radetsky Caplan and Barbara Radetsky Sak. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Amy Radetsky and Luis Bruder; grandson, Marcus (a football player like his Grandpa), of Arlington, Virginia; his sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Lew Berey of Kansas City; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was especially close in his later years to his nephew, Rob, who never stopped being a constant friend and companion, even after Sonny could not leave Village Shalom. Throughout his life, Sonny modeled a true kind and gentle spirit, loving us all without expectation. We are so proud and fortunate that he was a part of our family.
The family is especially grateful for the care and kindness of the Village Shalom staff in his later years. Condolences may be shared at louismemorialchapel.com. The family suggests donations to the charity of your choice.
