Dolores Miller, 88, of Merriam, Kansas, died Feb. 8, 2022, at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park, Kansas.
She was born in June 1933 to Yetta and Emil Barsky in Kansas City, Missouri. She attended Central High School and graduated with the class of 1951, then attended Kansas City Junior College the following year and later the Kansas City Art Institute.
She met Steve Miller, a musician from New York who had just joined the Kansas City Philharmonic, and they were married in 1953. She had two sons and raised them at their new home in Overland Park. She began a study of philosophy at University of Kansas, and received her Ph.D. in 1985. She then taught philosophy at University of Missouri - Kansas City and Johnson County Junior College for several years.
Dolores loved nature, her pet dogs, the birds that crowded her feeders, mushroom hunting, and she was especially fond of gardening. She was a member of the The Diversifiers poetry group and wrote beautiful poetry.
Dolores is survived by her children: Edward and his wife Karen; David and his wife Esther; her grandchildren: Georgia, Sarah, and Bracha; her great-grandchildren: Natan and Avigail; sisters: Rosalie Fein and Judy Corson; and brother: Bernie Barsky, all of whom will greatly miss her sweet presence.
Her memorial was held Thursday, Feb. 10, graveside at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Raytown, Missouri.
