Sam Matier, 79, of Merriam, Kansas, passed away on Feb. 13, 2022.

He was born May 8, 1942, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Isadore and Esther Matier. Sam grew up in St. Louis surrounded by his close family. He was a kind and gentle soul with endless patience and a great sense of humor.

He loved music and always laughed about being in the “Cornball Quartet” in school. He was a proud AEPi member, graduated from University of Missouri in 1965 and later got his MBA at UMKC. He worked as an industrial engineer for TWA and Sprint. He was very involved with his local city council and took pride in being the voice of the people. He volunteered his technology skills to various organizations by building websites,and documenting events with photos and videos. 

He loved celebrating milestones with his three daughters and their families, and he got so much joy out of entertaining his grandchildren with magic tricks and a variety of his inventions. He also enjoyed biking, Kansas City Ski Club, being outdoors with the family, and especially taking long walks with his beloved dog, Bella.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Dorothy Goldstein, Bernice Guller, and Evelyn Seidel; and niece and nephew Esther and Marty Goldstein.

He is survived by his daughters Lisa Biederman (Doug Antonoff), Jodi Gagnon (Marty), and Kelley Wengler (Jason); and nine grandchildren, Josh and Zach Biederman, Carly, Alyssa, Macy, and Drew Gagnon, Zoey, Lily, and Jack Wengler; nieces and nephews, and his dog, Bella Angel.

A graveside service was held on Feb. 16, 2022, at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, 5529 Ditzler, Raytown, MO. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to your favorite animal shelter. Online condolences may be left for the family at louismemorialchapel.com.
