Michael Adam Rosenblum passed away in Kansas City, Missouri, on Jan. 11, 2022.

He was born Aug. 9, 1957, in New York, the son of Ruth Shulman Rosenblum and Lawrence Saul Rosenblum. His grandparents were Rita Steinberg Shulman and Jacob P. Shulman, and Rena Kronenberg Rosenblum and David Rosenblum.

Much of Michael’s childhood was spent in Manhattan, New York, with his parents and his younger brother, Jeffrey. Michael was a student at the McBurney School. After the family moved to New Rochelle, New York, Michael went to Riverdale Country Day School, graduating in 1975. Michael attended The University of Pennsylvania, where he joined Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.

Michael worked for Larry Schur, his father’s best friend. Larry’s son, Billy Schur, was Michael’s best friend, whom he viewed as his cousin. His career in commercial real estate spanned four decades, all with Schur Management Company. Michael was a skilled negotiator who could conduct business wherever he found a phone. His understanding of strategy made him a valued adviser to his colleagues and friends and a strong competitor in games such as backgammon, poker, and gin rummy.

Mike moved to Kansas City, Missouri, in the mid-1990s and had two children born during his marriage to Dr. Vickie Massey: Aaron David Rosenblum and Daryl Lea Rosenblum. Michael was active at The Pembroke Hill School, arranging “pizza book-reading parties” and ultimately serving on what he deemed “the prestigious envelope-stuffing committee.”

Mike’s favorite sport was ice hockey, and he was a devoted season-ticket fan of the Missouri Mavericks. Michael gave generously, supporting several synagogues, organizations that aid children, and his fraternity. During Michael’s later years, he benefited from and appreciated the attention and efforts of his longtime caregiver, Jennifer Downs, and his medical team, especially Dr. James D’Angelo, Dr. Gerald Reid, and Dr. Michael Sokol.

Michael’s survivors include Daryl Rosenblum Hesse, Jeffrey Rosenblum, Billy Schur and family, and members of the Rosenblum, Schulman, and Schur families.
