Yakov Altman, 97, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away Thursday, December 30, 2021, at his home.
Funeral services and burial were Sunday, January 2, at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Brookdale Hospice, the Parkinson’s Foundation and Congregation Beth Shalom.
Yakov was born on March 24, 1924, in Iasi, Romania, the son of Moishe and Rosalia (Goldman) Altman. He was one of four sons. Yakov immigrated to the United States from Kishinev, Moldova, in 1980 at the age of 57. He worked very hard all his life to support his family. He was a proud and active member of Congregation Beth Shalom for 41 years.
Yakov was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. He had a wonderful sense of humor, was very passionate and a great singer. He was married to the love of his life, Betya, for 67 years.
Yakov was preceded in death by his parents and wife. He is survived by his brothers: Lipa Altman and Gidalya Altman; two daughters and sons-in-law: Flora and Gustav Faverman and Rimma and Boris Livak, all of Overland Park; grandchildren: Misha Livak, Lidia Faverman and Eran Segev, Shelly and Alex Malyarov; great-grandchildren: Destiny Livak, Kirsten Livak, Micah Segev, Maya Segev, Isabella Malyarov, Briana Malyarov; great-great grandchild: Violet Weir. Yakov will be greatly missed by everyone who had the honor of knowing him.
