Heloise Pfeifer Isacson Werthan Kuhn passed away peacefully Thursday, November 18, 2021, with family at her bedside.
Heloise was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, on January 15, 1921. She was the cherished, only child of Rosa Pfeifer Isacson and Harry E. Isaacson. During her childhood, Heloise was lovingly called “precious.”
Heloise wrote, “I am a housewife and a volunteer in the Nashville community. Since I moved to Nashville as a young bride, I have been involved in many areas of interest.”
Heloise’s lifetime volunteer efforts have included serving on the boards of the Symphony Association, Vice President of the Nashville section of the National Council of Jewish Women, the Advisory Board of Planned Parenthood, Advisory Board of the YWCA, Family and Children’s Services, Cheekwood, Crittendon, Canby Robinson Society Board at Vanderbilt, Swan Ball Auction Committee, and the Heart Gala. She has always been a staunch supporter and advocate of the Jewish Federation and Jewish Foundation of Nashville and Middle Tennessee.
Kuhn was an alumnus of Leadership Nashville and received the Sara Roddes Community Service Award in 1998. In 2006, she was honored by the YMCA and inducted into the Academy of Women of Achievement. In 2008, she received the Crowning Achievement Award from Senior Citizens.
Heloise had so many interests including art, antiques, literature, music, riding with her family and travels around the globe.
Heloise’s personal values were reflected in her devotion to family, friends, and service to the Nashville community she loved.
She had magnificent taste and loved to entertain friends and family in her gracious home. She was always elegant, honest, loyal, warm, and welcoming. She never met a stranger and was beloved and respected by all who were lucky enough to know her.
Heloise was a devoted daughter and best friend to her mother, a devoted wife, mother, and friend.
Her first marriage in 1942 was to Howard Meyer Werthan of Nashville and father of her two daughters, Patricia and Joni. Mr. Werthan passed away in 1967. Her second marriage was to Jack W. Kuhn, Sr., who passed away in 1999.
Survivors include her daughters; Joni Pfeifer Werthan of Franklin, Tennessee (Chris Saunders) and Patricia Werthan Uhlmann (John Uhlmann deceased) of Kansas City. Heloise has two granddaughters and six great grandchildren who she adored with all her heart! Kate Uhlmann Aikman (Dennis Aikman), of Marblehead, Massachusetts, and Jennifer Heloise Aikman, Taylor Elizabeth Aikman, Noa Grace Aikman and Meg Uhlmann Shaw (Justin Shaw), of Kansas City and Joshua David Shaw, Madeline Ella Shaw, and Adam Werthan Shaw.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Temple, Ohabai Shalom in Nashville, the Nashville Community Foundation’s Heloise Werthan Kuhn Scholarship Fund, the Jewish Federation of Greater Nashville and Middle Tennessee, the Generation’s Fund at Planned Parenthood in Nashville, Alive Hospice, or Leadership Nashville.
Some things never end…. may Heloise Werthan Kuhn’s name, vivid life, love, memory, and legacy always be a comfort and a blessing forever…plus one.
At the request of the family, a private interment will be held prior to a Celebration of Life.
