August 17, 1922 – August 16, 2021.
Peggy Simons passed from among us on the eve of her 99th birthday after a brief period of declining health.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Cohon, Carol’s husband Robert, her son, Bob Simons, his wife Terrie, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
An only child of doting parents, she grew up and met her dearly loved husband, Herb, in New York. In 1943 they moved to Kansas City to follow her husband’s work and raise a family. She lived for seventy years within a short distance from the homes of her grown children in the family home they built.
She lost her husband in 1980, lived the remainder of her life alone with his memory, and devoted herself to her family and to serving the community. She was notably involved year-round for decades with the tremendously popular annual Brandeis University Book Sale. Her work and leadership of that organization not only raised money for that great institution of learning, but it also brought the joy of books to countless individuals in her community.
An ardent and skilled golfer like the rest of her family, she was also a guiding force in her golf and country club where the “family foursome” played together and enjoyed friends and each other’s company.
Throughout her life she was a kind, thoughtful, and sweet person, active in the lives of her children and grandchildren. She was instantly loved and appreciated for her gentle nature by all who knew her.
A graveside service for family in memory of Peggy Simons was held on Wednesday, August 18, 2021. Contributions in Peggy’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
