Laurence M. Silver, aka Popeye, of Overland Park, KS was born on August 25, 1947 in Detroit, MI and passed away on July 11, 2021. He is preceded in death by Marshall Arthur Silver and Helen Jacobson Silver. He is survived by his wife, Janis Doreen Silver; his sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and John Nathan; his son, Bradley L Silver; his daughter, Ashley Silver Fox and his step-daughter, Serena Pastena. He is also survived by six grandchildren. In lieu of flowers please donate to Wayside Waifs in honor of Popeye’s love for all animals.

Popeye was a kid at heart. He is still the self-proclaimed wiffle ball champ of Beverly St, and he is known for the invention of the whiff-n-poo pitch. His sense of humor and wit was in full effect up until his passing. His knack for cracking jokes and making light of a situation was one of Popeye’s most endearing qualities.

He was also the most selfless person that one would ever meet. Popeye was a Michigan State Spartan, a 50-year veteran of commercial kitchen design, a master gardener, a duct tape handyman extraordinaire, a huge klutz especially on roller skates, a master baiter and fisherman, a modest golfer, an avid dog lover, a cat wrangler, a lover of all that is Detroit sports, and above all the best Pop that anyone could have asked for.

We love you, and we will miss you dearly.

And remember “you can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, well, you might find you get what you need.”
