Annette Modell Bloch of Kansas City, MO and Palm Springs, CA, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by the family she treasured on July 17, 2021.
Born Dec. 6, 1926 to Lenore and Philip Modell in Philadelphia, Pa. on Wingohocking Street, she moved to Kansas City when she married Richard Bloch on June 16, 1946. They were married for 58 years, until Richard passed away.
She is survived by three daughters, Barbara Huson (Lee), Nancy Linsley (Michael), and Linda Lyon (Mike), 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
She and Dick founded the RA Bloch Cancer Foundation in 1980 when he was cured after being diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. They worked tirelessly supporting cancer patients worldwide.
She was a passionate philanthropist and loved to do things in a big way. She supported the University of Kansas Health System in Kansas City, the Desert Aids Project in Palm Springs (DAP Health), the Palm Springs Art Museum and received many honors for her charitable projects.
Annette loved her life, loved to travel, entertain, and more than anything, loved her family. One of her deepest desires, she always said, was to make a difference in other people’s lives and especially to be an inspiration to younger women. She touched the lives of so many, treating everyone as if they were the most important person to her.
For the last 17 years, she’s been beautifully supported and loved by her devoted partner, Andrei Muresan.
At 94 she was working out five days a week, growing ever younger and more vital until cancer caught up with her. Her family and friends mourn her loss and will miss her very much.
The family is having a private burial and hopes to celebrate her life with parties in Kansas City and Palm Springs in the near future. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to The University of Kansas Health System, 2330 Shawnee Mission Parkway, Ste 305, Westwood, Kansas 66205 or DAP Health, 1695 North Sunrise Way, Palm Springs, CA 92262.
