Samuel (Sammie) Myron Gottlieb, 97, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2021. The funeral was held on July 6 at KI Blue Ridge Cemetery chapel, 1901 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Jewish Family Services food pantry or a charity of one’s choice.

Sammie was born in Kansas City, Missouri on July 17, 1923, to the late Louis and Mary (Kaplan) Gottlieb. His sisters, Goldene Rydell, and Esther Bitner also preceded him in death.

In 1943 he served as a 1st Sergeant in the Medical Corp., during WWII, and was stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii.

In 1946, Sammie married Pearl Rosen, the love of his life, and was married for 56 years. Pearl preceded Sammie in death in September 2003. He was a lifetime member of Kehilath Israel Synagogue.

Sammie spent 45 years of his career in the scrap metal business, working until he was 72, for American Compressed Steel.

He is survived by his children; Sharon (Buddy) Levin, Jerrold (Gail) Gottlieb; Sandra Zelzer, and Jody (Dennis) Ervin. Grandchildren; Scott (Debra) Levin; Amy (Robby) Young; Aaron (Amber) Gottlieb; Robyn Colvin (Mike), David (Becky) Gottlieb, Ellie Miller; Cara (Chad) Freed, Chad Bayzman, Bradley Cotlar, Andrew Cotlar; and Alyson (Joseph) Dieker.  Great-grandchildren; Morgan (fiancé Angie Cochran), Nicole, and Zachary Young, Jordan Levin, Emily and Ezra Gottlieb, Macy Colvin, Parker Freed, Mattix, Easton, Taylor and Brianna Cotlar, and Thomas Dieker. 

Great-great grandchildren; Khloe, Brayden, Hudson and numerous nieces and nephews.

The most important thing in Sammie’s life was his family, who he loved to make laugh with songs, stories, and jokes. He cherished every moment he spent with them. He was loved and will be missed.
