Dorothy Greenberg passed away at her residence in Leawood, Kansas, on July 5, 2021 at the age of 100. She was born August 18, 1920, in Kansas City, Missouri to Morris and Ruth Hurst, both of whom predeceased her. Also preceding her in death were her husband of 58 years, Albert Greenberg; her brothers, Harold Hurst and Richard Hurst and sons-in-law, Stanford S. Block, Jr. and David H. Seelig.
Dorothy was the beloved mother of Manny Greenberg of Kansas City, MO and Alana Block Seelig of New Orleans, LA. She was the cherished grandmother of Nan Silbert (Gary) of New Orleans, Chip Seelig of New Orleans, Tommy Block and Jimmy Block both of New Orleans; great-grandmother of Susan Greenberg (Greg) of Los Angeles, CA, Nicholas Silbert (Kayce) of Dallas, TX, Liza Seelig of New Orleans, Mia and Mack Block both of New Orleans and great, great-grandmother of Eleanor and Grant Greenberg both of Los Angeles.
Dorothy was a life member of The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah Sisterhood and Hadassah of Kansas City. She was a volunteer at Menorah Medical Center’s gift shop and The Temple’s gift shop. She was an officer of the Kansas City Chapter of The Denver Home for Asthmatic Children.
Dorothy was a lovely lady possessing quiet elegance, graciousness and a peaceful spirit that she shared with all who knew her. She was a wonderful aunt, great aunt and great, great aunt to her many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy had a great group of close friends and remained close to their children. She loved to cook and has many of her recipes in the cookbooks for both The Denver Home for Asthmatic Children and The Menorah Hospital cookbook, “Gourmet Garden”.
The family would like to thank Dorothy’s devoted caregivers of many years, Berneice Jones and Christy Richardson and the Kansas City Hospice group. The family would also like to thank Dorothy’s primary care physician, Dr. Donald Cohen for the wonderful care he showed to her.
Graveside services will be held 9:30 am Thursday, July 8, 2021 at Rose Hill Cemetery. To join by zoom please email for zoom information.
