Edward Earl Haith, M.D., FACS. Born Dec. 2, 1932 in Kansas City, Missouri. Parents, the late William and Ruth (Stein) Haith. He passed away May 7, 2021 at Menorah Medical Center surrounded by his children and grandchildren who loved him dearly. Their “Poppy” was the light of their life and they looked to him for guidance and support. He knew on the first date with Rickie Schere, that she was the girl he would marry. They had a loving and devoted marriage for 62 years.
Edward was a skilled surgeon known for his gentle and kind manner in treating his patients, nurses, and colleagues.
He received his BA from Washington University in St. Louis, MD from University of Kansas Medical Center, intern at Kansas University Medical Center, and resident in General Surgery at Kansas University Medical Center.
In private practice, specializing in general surgery. On staff at Menorah Medical Center, Research Hospital, Baptist Memorial Hospital. Chief of Surgery Menorah and Baptist Hospitals. President of Medical Staff Baptist Hospital and Kansas City Surgical Society. Received many awards and authored several articles. Retired from active practice in 1997.
In his retirement, Edward loved making time to spend with his family and lived to see nine great grandchildren. He enjoyed working at Bass Pro and the many friendships he made there. Fishing and running marathons was his passion and he enjoyed watching Jayhawks Basketball, Royals and the Chiefs.
He was a dedicated member of Congregation Beth Shalom, Friends of Sheffield Cemetery, and a former Board Member of the Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy, where his children and grandchildren attended. His daughter, Elisa Pener has been the school nurse for over 20 years.
Dr. Haith is survived by his wife, Rickie (Schere) Haith, children Elisa Pener (James), Dion Lutzk (Howard), Dr. Brian Haith (Debra), Grandchildren, Sam Pener (Megan), Michele Cole (Jared), Jacqueline Luckhoff (Dr. Anton), Aaron Lutzk, Brittany Caruba (Benjamin), Shane Lutzk, Brooke Cooper (fiancé ), Jake, Jenna, Elaine, and Eddie Haith.
Great Grandchildren Magnolia and Leo Cole, Nella and Remi Caruba, Evelyn and Louis Pener, Lily, Jonah and Colbie Luckhoff.
Sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws Renee Haith, Harriet and Mark Seelig, Patricia and Spencer Schere.
And his many close extended family and friends.
Predeceased by, parents Ruth (Stein) and William Haith, brother Sam Haith, Mother and father-in-law Sarah and Hyman Schere.
