Sion Rahbarrad Lavi passed away peacefully, in his home, on April 2, 2021, in Olathe, Kansas, a few months short of his 100th birthday.

Born in Hamadan, Iran, he was the youngest of seven children.

In the early 1980s, Sion and his wife Parvin emigrated to the United States to rejoin their children whom they had sent here a few years earlier. He left behind a successful career as a bookkeeper, a comfortable home, and most of his belongings. In his mid-60s, he and Parvin learned a new language and started their new life from scratch.

He was a man of deep faith and tradition who embraced life with an open mind. His humility was a source of strength, and he possessed a quiet dignity that drew young and old towards him.

He had a green thumb that even the most avid gardeners would envy and he loved to tinker with anything electronic or fix anything that was broken. He enjoyed his wife’s delicious meals and taught his children and grandchildren how to make the perfect loghmeh (a mini-sandwich wrap). Most of all, it was his love for his children and their children which made him happy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tavus and Yahudah Lavi and all of his siblings.

His memory lives on through his wife, Parvin, their two children Mahta and Mahyar with their respective spouses William and Christiane, four grand-children and spouses Setareh & Michael, Sanam & Eric, Arman and Amita, and three wonderful great-granddaughters Isabelle, Layla and Sasha. He will be missed dearly.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Congregation Beth Torah Families in Need Fund.
