Marcia was born December 2, 1944, in Fort Worth, Texas to Samuel and Davida Markowitz. Mr. and Mrs. Markowitz moved to Kansas City, her father’s hometown, with Marcia in 1946 and were soon thereafter joined by the arrival of Marcia’s baby brother, Joel.
Marcia was a two-time alum of the University of Missouri, where she earned her bachelor’s in journalism and her masters in library science. Marcia lived and worked in Kansas City her entire adult life. Marcia married her husband, John “Jack” Katchmarik, on her fiftieth birthday in 1994. Together, they enjoyed twenty-six wonderful years of marriage.
Marcia was very active in her community from the 1970’s into the past decade. In 2012, Kansas City’s then-Mayer Sly James recognized Marcia’s substantial record of service toward her community with a Good Neighbor Award.
Marcia’s personal philosophy was, “If you turn it up loud enough, you can find the answer to any of life’s challenges in rock and roll.”
Marcia is survived by her husband, Jack; her son Aaron, Aaron’s wife Shelby, and their children Reagan (age 18), Davis (age 15), and Shiloh (age 8); her son James, James’s wife Afton, and their children Olive (age 9) and Noah (age 6); and by Marcia’s brother, Joel, Joel’s wife Susan, and their two children Adam (age 24) and Sarah (age 24).
