David Gerson of Kansas City, Missouri, lost his year-long battle with leukemia on March 24, 2021. He passed at home surrounded by his loving family.
David was born Dec. 16, 1964, to Kurt and Barbara Gerson. He attended Shawnee Mission East High School and Ohio University, then later obtained his master’s degree in social work from the University of Kansas. He spent his life caring for others as a social worker, philanthropist, volunteer, husband and father.
He started his career in the family business and developed into a skilled entrepreneur and compassionate social worker. He lived life to the fullest through his love for music, theater, art, travel, nature, good food, good friends and, of course, his family. Throughout his life he exemplified the values of his Jewish faith and worked hard to pass on those values to his children.
David is survived by his loving wife and soulmate, Christine Holland-Gerson of the home; his son, Levi (Emily) Gerson of Denver; his daughter, Tess Gerson of Chicago; his sisters, Debbie (Kerry) Lindenbaum of Leawood and Linda Gerson of Santa Cruz, California, as well as his nephew Alex Potvin of Denver. He was preceded in death by his parents. David’s love and generous spirit touched the lives of many, and he will be deeply missed by countless friends and family.
Private family services were held on Friday, March 25. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made either to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society or Jewish Family Services.
