Susan Marcella Cohen, a lifelong resident of Kansas City, passed away on March 18, 2021, at age 76 at her home on the Plaza.

Susan was born on Sept. 14, 1944, the daughter of Philip and Eunice “Dee Dee” Cohen. She is survived by her brother, Martin Cohen; Rabbi Randy Sheinberg and Paola (Susan’s younger niece) of New York; her niece Ariel Cohen and Louis Orren and Isadora Cohen-Orren of California; and by numerous cousins.

Susan was a member of Kehilath Israel Synagogue and a life member of Hadassah. She was a supporter of the Nelson-Atkins Museum, the Kemper Museum, Children’s Mercy Hospital and other non-profits. Her happiest hours were spent wandering through art galleries or visiting the Plaza Art Fair with her nieces and friends. In New York she loved shopping, the Carnegie Deli and the Metropolitan Museum. Whenever there was a need, she was a devoted caregiver to her family.

Susan was a graduate of UMKC. After starting as a social worker, she served as an executive at Central Candy & Tobacco Company where she earned recognition from national trade associations. She also helped found two schools for autistic children.

A remote funeral ceremony was conducted followed by interment at Sheffield Cemetery on March 21.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest donations to Children’s Mercy Hospital or to the Jewish National Fund American Independence Park Philip & Eunice Cohen Grove.
