Carol Weissman, 83, of Leawood, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2021, in the presence of family and friends.

The service, which was held Tuesday, Feb. 2, at Rose Hill Cemetery, can be viewed by contacting The Louis Memorial Chapel.

Born Aug. 2, 1937, in Kansas City, Carol was the proud daughter of Sam and Helen Nelkin. The youngest of four children she is survived by her sister Barbara; children, Marty Devins-Horvath and Kevin Horvath, Sidney and Sally Devins; and grandchildren, Alison, David and Alexandra Chaplick, Lindsay and Andrew Towell, Erin Devins, Mackenzie Devins, Skylar and Deko Devins. She is survived by Melvyn Weissman’s children Scott Weissman and Sharon Allen and their children, Rachel Berger, Sarah and Caleb Weissman, along with her “adopted children,” Jeff and Janis Steimer and their children, Julie and Trevor Yakle and Jimmy and Marsha Steimer.

Carol was married to George Devins throughout her children’s formative years. When the two grew apart later in life, she met her soulmate Melvyn Weissman. Married to Mel she was never happier. She loved and adored his children. Though she lost “papa Mel” nine years ago, her love and dedication to him never faded.

Carol was a beautiful, creative, caring, kind, fun loving, silly, generous woman whose life centered around family, many great friends and Judaism. Brought up in a traditional Jewish home, she never lost her sense of social responsibility, Jewish traditions and love for our faith as she transitioned from Orthodox to Reform Judaism as an adult. She spent most of her adult life as an interior designer. Her creative energy and vision are on display in many homes around Kansas City.

She will be terribly missed by all who were touched by this beautiful soul.
