Barbara Marilyn Schwartz, 75, of Lenexa, Kansas, passed away on July 5.

Funeral services were held on July 9, at Louis Memorial Chapel, with burial following at Rose Hill Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in lieu of flowers.

Barbara was born on Dec. 21, 1950, to William and Hannah Rock. She graduated from Center High School in 1968 and married the love of her life, Alan Schwartz, in 1972. They were married just shy of 50 years when Alan passed away in December 2021. Barbara spent decades working as a paraeducator at Blue Valley North High School, where she was beloved by students and staff and made a lasting impact on many lives.

Barbara cherished Alan deeply and was a devoted mother to their two daughters, Amy and Tracy. She enjoyed time spent dining with family and friends and vacationing at Myrtle Beach. Despite years of living with cancer and other serious health challenges, she treasured time with her five grandsons — attending their ballgames, celebrating holidays and birthdays and cheering them on in all their pursuits. Barbara also deeply valued her lifelong friendships and played mahjongg multiple times a week. A devoted dog lover, she doted on many family dogs throughout her life.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Alan. She is survived by her daughters, Amy Schwartz and Tracy Tankard (Frank); her grandsons, Weston, Crosby, Jacob, Jonah and PJ Tankard; her brother, Morty Rock (Taena); and several nieces and nephews.
