Rabbi Yehuda Fleischmann passed away in Baltimore, Maryland, on April 29 at the age of 97.

He is survived by his children, Ayala (Don) Greenberg, Dovid (Zehava) Fleischmann, Batya (Yisroel) Luwish, Michoel (Essie) Fleischmann and Bracha (Levi) Mark; 23 grandchildren; and almost 70 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Libby.

Born in Germany, he escaped to Argentina with his mother and older brother before the outbreak of World War II. When he was old enough, he moved to New York to attend Yeshiva University, where he received ordination as an Orthodox rabbi.

In the early 1960s, he was an assistant rabbi at Kehilath Israel Synagogue in Kansas City, Missouri, and then served as head of Judaic Studies and co-director of what became Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy. In the many communities across the country in which he resided, he promoted mitzvah observance and studied Torah with Jews from all sorts of backgrounds with enthusiasm, even in his later years.
