J Camp at the Jewish Community Center wrapped up a successful summer, having 737 different youth campers enrolled in school-aged J Camp sessions between May 31 and Aug. 12.
Attendance numbers broke previous records.
J Camp provides summer activities for children ages 2–13 with 12 premier and specialty camps throughout the summer. This summer, campers partook in a variety of activities, such as games, crafts, sports, archery, STEM, art, tennis, field trips, and swimming. Having always been one of the campers’ favorite activities, swimming was especially popular this year with the addition of The J’s newest feature, a rock wall by the pool. New shade structures were also added.
The camp programming aims to integrate Jewish values and a love of Israel while promoting a sense of Jewish pride in campers. Through a summer exchange program, J Camp brought two Israeli students, Dolev and Noa, to Kansas City this year as J Camp Counselors. These J Camp Shlichim (Israeli Emissaries) shared their love of Israel with their campers and hosted a variety of Israeli cultural activities.
J Camp’s Ma’asim Tovim Camp provided a unique experience for 7th and 8th graders. Each week, youth assisted others through community service in the mornings and participated in day camp or recreational activities in the afternoon. Youth were encouraged to be mensches.
The Child Development Center (CDC) Camp also offered activities for children ages 2-5 years. Campers learn new skills with structured recreational and educational activities while enjoying art, sports, swimming, tennis, archery, field trips, special events, and more.
Dolev and Noa, this summer's J Camp Shlichim (Israeli Emissaries), introduced campers to different Israeli traditions throughout the summer.
