This Sunday, Sept. 8 at 1 p.m., groundbreaking for the new KU Chabad Center for Jewish Life will take place.
Dignitaries such as University of Kansas Chancellor Douglas Girod; Lawrence, Kansas, city commissioners; Douglas County Commissioners; and community leaders will be in attendance, and activities will include photos with KU mascot Big Jay, prize giveaways and kosher food.
The new facility will be located at 1203 W. 19th St., Lawrence, KS 66046. The two-story building with front and back outdoor plazas will be constructed on the site, as will a dedicated parking lot.
Rabbi Zalman and Nechama Tiechtel, who direct and lead the Jewish Center are excited about this milestone.
“We are delighted to have many families in the community who have already made major gifts and will be honored at the groundbreaking,” Rabbi Tiechtel said. “We are inviting the entire KU and Lawrence community to gather together in celebration of this great milestone, marking the historical first time in Lawrence history that a new structure is being built for the KU Jewish student community.”
