The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah and The Michael Klein Collection will host a weekend of music and learning with Jewish musician Dan Nichols.
Nichols will be leading several programs open to the public as well as taking part in Shabbat services from Sept. 13 to 15.
Nichols is a Jewish rock musician and singer-songwriter with a career spanning over two decades. Nichols is a fixture in the Jewish music scene, known for blending contemporary sounds with traditional Jewish themes. He has served as a songleader at Jewish summer camps and guest teacher at dozens of synagogues. His compositions are incorporated into prayer in communities across the country.
“We are delighted to host Dan Nichols at B’nai Jehudah,” Klein Collection Educator and Curator Abby Magariel said. “His music and teaching bring people together and inspire a deep sense of community. We are excited to gather friends and family from around the city as we enjoy Dan’s superb talent and his ability to foster connections through music.”
Nichols will join B’nai Jehudah’s Friday night Shabbat services, which will be followed by a jam session open to all musicians. On Saturday, he will lead a Tot Shabbat for children and their families at 9 a.m. and an afternoon adult learning session about Jewish songwriters called “Oh My God.”
The main event of Nichols’ visit is a Havdalah and song session for community members of all ages. The whole Jewish community is invited to attend and have dinner sponsored by The Michael Klein Collection.
Registration for all events is free and can be completed at bnaijehudah.org or by calling (913) 663-4050.
In addition to these events at B’nai Jehudah, Nichols will also visit the Child Development Center at the J; Village Shalom; and KU Hillel in Lawrence, Kansas.
