Multiple community members will be honored at the Kansas City Royals’ Jewish Heritage Night at Kauffman Stadium during the Royals vs. Boston Red Sox game.
The event is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 7, at 7:10 p.m.
Community members Danielle and Sam Levine, Beth Liss, Lynne Melcher and Barry Kaseff will all be recognized on the field before the game. Sam Levine will be throwing out the honorary first pitch.
2023 KC SuperStar winner Brett Oplotnik will sing the national anthem. Bo Stolper will be the Royals’ “Play Ball” Kid, announcing the start of the game in front of the crowd. The Royals’ Sluggerrr will also make an appearance at the pregame tailgate.
“Celebrating and participating in Jewish Heritage Night at the K, especially as the global Jewish community continues to see a rise in antisemitism, will be a memorable experience for all those in attendance,” said Jonathan Schwartzbard, director of transformational giving at Jewish Federation of Greater Kansas City. “More importantly, as a KC Jewish community, it is meaningful to come together to celebrate our Jewish pride and stand proud as a community.
“Additionally, the opportunity to recognize some of our most devoted, dedicated, philanthropic and impactful leaders and community members, is an honor they are all very deserving of,” Schwartzbard continued. “Each individual and family being honored at the game has consistently been at the forefront of our community and in times of crisis have ‘stepped up to the plate.’”
Custom Hebrew Royals jerseys will be available with the purchase of a theme ticket. The jerseys will be available at Gate A, and purchasers must arrive before the second inning to receive theirs. Gate A opens at 5:30 p.m., and only individuals who present a Jewish Heritage Night theme ticket will receive a jersey.
Jewish Experiences, a collaboration of Jewish Federation and The J, is coordinating a community celebration tailgate prior to the first pitch. The tailgate will be held in Lot N beginning at 5 p.m. Tickets to the tailgate must be purchased separately. Attendees can choose between a Vaad-supervised kosher meal of chicken shawarma or falafel, served with pita, hummus and water.
“We are so excited that Jewish Heritage Night at The K is back this year,” said Carly Stein, chief operating officer at The J. “It is a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together for the tailgate prior to the event, enjoy Mediterranean food and then cheer on the Royals.”
