While many student organizations wind down for the summer, KU Chabad continues to engage the Jewish community at the University of Kansas.
KU Chabad summer programming includes hosting students for Shabbat meals, social events, weekly classes and mental health support.
“We know how important it is for us to be present for our students during the summer,” said Rabbi Zalman Tiechtel, director of KU Chabad. “Our students are our family, and we never abandon our family. While the crowds may be smaller, the close-knit feeling makes it even more special.”
“It is so great that Chabad hosts Shabbat dinners during the summer,” said Zach Brown, a KU student from Kansas City, Missouri. “When things are quiet here in town, it’s so nice to meet friends and enjoy Shabbat together. We all have such a great time, and I’m so glad we can gather together as a Jewish community even when classes aren’t in session.”
In addition to catering to the needs of current students, KU Chabad staff also spend the summer welcoming incoming freshmen as they join the new student orientation. KU Chabad greets incoming students and their families as they orient themselves at the university.
