The recent Jewish Family Services (JFS) open house at its Brookside location began its food pantry’s summer Wipe Out campaign to collect toilet paper.
The Summer Splash open house was sponsored and honorarily chaired by Carol and Arnold Caviar and family; and co-chaired by Erika Saleski, Jo Taylor and Summer Splash teen ambassadors.
In addition to enjoying summer treats, meeting community partners and taking tours of JFS Brookside facilities, Summer Splash attendees donated more than 3,000 rolls of toilet paper — equivalent to a one-month supply that JFS Food Pantry distributes to more than 500 families. By hitting the 3,000-roll mark, Kansas City area retailer Cargo Largo is matching the toilet paper donation.
JFS is focusing on collecting toilet paper to keep the two locations of its food pantry fully stocked. There is always a demand for toilet paper because it is among several personal care/hygiene items not covered by government assistance programs.
The community is encouraged to continue donating packages of toilet paper through August. Packages can be dropped off in designated barrels at The J (5801 W. 115th St., Overland Park, KS 66211) or JFS Brookside (425 E 63rd St., Kansas City, MO 64110).
Donors can purchase items for the food pantry directly through the JFS Pantry wishlist on Amazon (amzn.to/3XH5v7Z) or by making a financial contribution to the pantry at jfskc.org/donate. Toilet paper drives can be hosted at businesses or in neighborhoods. More information about the JFS Wipe Out drive is available at jfskc.org/wipeout/.
